Adoption

Even before becoming a mom, I enjoyed reading stories on babies, adoption, dimunitives and stories with the love-conquering all themes.

But now its reached gynormous levels. I MUST read everything about babies, raising children, nutrition, breastfeeding etc.

So while on facebook earlier, scrolling through the news feeds, I saw a link entitled: Adoption: An Act of Pure Love and I read the whole story about comedian Rob van Vuuren and his wife Dani's struggle with conceiving and their susequent plan to adopt.

My whole on view Rob was scrapped after reading this heartfelt story. Its touching to read. One quote stood out from the rest:
When Dani came out of the theatre with Bijou, I was struck by her big, beautiful eyes. We went straight to the nursery, where I held her. All I could think was, I’ve got you, my baby, I’ve got you. I fell deeply in love from the moment I met her, and every second of each day I fall deeper. It’s quite a dizzying feeling.
How beautiful! Sometimes its difficult to attach any smidgen of seriousness to comics and you forget that the too have pains, fears, and worries.

Something else also stood out for me: Adoptive mothers can breastfeed. (Induced Lactation)
I never knew this. How fascinating.

Induced lactation involves herbs, pumping, medicine and the suckling motion of a baby.
Besides hormones (which are produced during the 9 months of pregnancy) the above-mentioned can help an adoptive mother breastfeed - which is important as the mother-child bond is lacking.

Not to mention the help benefits - to which I can attest!
She hasn't been sick once yet. Not once in 8 months.
Yes there has been the odd pain because of teething, but no fever, no flu, nothing.
Breast is best!
